If you have pending layoff or job change, it is time to update resume.

My resume is always being updated as I try to find my way in the current job market, like thousands of others searching for work during the what is now considered to be post Great Recession.

A resume will determined if you are a potential job candidate based on a short history of your course of life work. Prospective employers have a chance to learn about work, education, skills and not much more.

Who needs a resume? If you are searching for work or anticipating a possible lay off, now is the time to start your resume. In the past, you may have been hired without the aide of a resume. In today’s market, a resume is important to almost any position.

Most employers want your resume emailed or posted on their company website. If you don’t have computer access, don’t worry, find someone that does, such a friend, family member, library or state workforce locations.

It’s a good resume if:
1. Is easy to read
2. States your skills, knowledge and experience
3. Shows your accomplishments in numbers and facts
4. Grabs the reader’s attention, so you will be invited to interview
5. Encourages questions during an interview
5. Uses white or ivory paper (Save the colored paper for holiday family letters!)
6. Presents completely accurate facts with no exaggerations (Employers check the facts.)
7. Is customized for the particular position
8. Contains important key words that may be picked up in an employer search

If you are savvy enough, it might be good to display your resume online, without the phone numbers and references listed. You can post your resume to a blog hosted on www.blogger.com or http://wordpress.org/ , both are free. This is a great way to show you have web skills.

Your future opportunities are waiting at the door. Get your resume ready for visiting your next employer!
