I was interviewed by CNN’s Emanuella Grinberg for the story, “In hard times, Americans still thankful” that ran on Thanksgiving Day. Click here to read the full story.

It all started with a a video I posted on CNN iReport. Click to view video.
I said in my video I was thankful to be receiving unemployment insurance during my layoff, along with a few other things.

The story was published on several other sites, across the nation. Here’s a link to a few sites you will find the story.

I’m flattered!

Ok, it does take much, but I am flattered that Logan C. Adams, the Assistant Editor at The Jamestown Sun, in Jamestown, North Dakota noticed my weather blogs and videos I have been posting. Click here to read his post about my blog.

Read Adams’ blog and find out about life in North Dakota.

It is amazing that anyone is even looking at my blog about my journey in the rural community of Murdock, population 303.
Listen to a story about my pioneering family in the Murdock area.

I started this blog in September, then started working part time in October at the West Central Tribune. I was happy to land a job in my career field after moving back to Minnesota from Florida this past summer.

If you are wondering what I’ve been doing since I graduated from Litchfield High School, visit my biography page.

Video with iPhone and tripod

In Blogging, Family, Food, Health, Hula Hoop, iphone, Minnesota, Minnesota Native Daughter, Murdock on November 11, 2010 at 12:38 pm

Murdock, Minnesota

You might have an iPhone or other way-too-smart phone with video already. If you want even better video, you might consider attaching your “Dick Tracy” device to a tripod to get a steady looking video.

I shot a video the last week of Oct. 2010 to test my iPhone attached to a tripod when I had an opportunity to participate in a seminar funded in part by the Ford Foundation at the Poynter Institute, located in St. Petersburg, Florida. I joined 30 people from around the United States, including international participants, from a mixture of journalism and non-journalism backgrounds, now participating in the media, such as blogging.

Click here to view examples of iPhone video, with and without a tripod, found on my blog.

This is a video created with the iPhone4 of musician Paul Imholte, of St. Cloud, Minnesota playing the hammered dulcimer at the Celebrate Art! Celebrate Coffee! today in Willmar, Minnesota. (Thanks for the coffee and art at the event, Willmar!)

Please tell me what you think about the video. I amazed by the technology in such a small package!

How to embed a video in Area Voices

In Blogging, Hula Hoop, Minnesota, Minnesota Native Daughter, Travel, WordPress on September 15, 2010 at 10:14 pm

By Jannet Walsh
Murdock, Minnesota

Embedding a video in Area Voices is simple.

I wasn’t able to figure out how to embed a video in Area Voices, so I wrote Anne Polta, Staff Writer at the West Central Tribune. She helped me before, so thought I’d ask again. Thanks Anne!

All you need to do place the YouTube link on a separate line while in the composing or edit mode. Do not hyperlink the link if you do not want to see the video displayed on your blog. Click here for complete instructions found at this link. You do not need the embedding code provided by YouTube, just the link to the video.

This video was embeded by just having the YouTube video link on one line in the content area of the blog.

Minnesota Point – Lost Hula Hoop video posted

In Family, Health, Hula Hoop, Minnesota, Minnesota Native Daughter, Travel on September 13, 2010 at 3:29 am

By Jannet Walsh
Duluth, Minnesota
My visit to Minnesota Point this weekend reminded me I lost something.

I forgot about a video I shot just after Mother’s Day this year at Minnesota Point, a peninsula or a small island that extends from the Canal Park area of Duluth, Minnesota.

It was snowing on May 7, 2010 when I arrived from Florida, so it was cold for a spring day. Minnesota Point is connected by the Aerial Lift Bridge to the rest of the city of Duluth and has a small airport called Sky Harbor Airport, surrounded by Lake Superior and Superior Bay.

Attached is a video I photographed at the end of Minnesota Point, near the small airport. It was very windy and my head is cropped out in most of the video, so beware!
