  25. Jannet,

I’m not much of a blogger, but I received a link to your blog from Kay Kennedy. Kay and I are “double first cousins” (our dads were brothers and our mothers were sisters). I was trying to figure out some of the connections between your ancestors and mine, but when I saw and listened to the video of Jen and Mart Walsh, I was “grabbed”. I’m still unsure of our family connections (but if you are a first cousin of Kay, that means we are first cousins too), but I immediately recognized Jen (who was a sister to my grandmother, Rose Pothen, I believe?) and Mart. I was in that house in Murdock dozens of times, and one of my favorite family photos is of my brothers, and Kay’s brothers–perhaps before I was born, posing in front of that house!

Where I’m most confused is: is your grandfather Martin Walsh, Jr? If I have digested this correctly, I was an altar boy with Mike Walsh for Martin’s wedding in the cathedral in St. Cloud. Was that your grandfather? Boy, small world.

As you can see from my website, I’m currently the president of the University of Maine in Orono, Maine. I’m stepping down from my presidency at the end of this year and looking forward to moving to our second home in Baxter, MN. We’ve had that home for 20 years or more. Our roots–like yours–are deeply imbedded in MN.

    Bob
